Joanna Lumley supports the Visually Impaired

25th Aug 2009

Enabled London , a social enterprise based here in the  Accelerator;  has recently completed working with  Joanna  Lumley to  create  an  innovative audio  map for people who are  visually  impaired  or blind.

The map, of Tower Hamlets and  Green  Flag  award winning Mile End Park, was supported  by  the  Accelerator  and their Project  and  Operations Manager, Graham  Hewson was instrumental in setting up  this  opportunity.

Graham commented: ‘Joanna kindly gave up her time for free to record the voice over and the results were very effective.’

Being the first park in the UK to adopt this approach, Mile End Park has applied for a Green Flag innovation award, results to be released this summer. Michael Rowan, Director of the London Borough of Tower Hamlets commented; ’as a borough we are keen to maintain our Green Flag Award status but more than that, I feel that something as useful as these maps will only help greater numbers of people to use and enjoy our parks’.
